Maysa Akbar, Ph.D. / Executive Director of Integrated Wellness Group (IWG) 


Dr. Akbar is the Founder and Executive Director of Integrated Wellness Group (IWG), a highly diverse psychotherapy practice dedicated to supporting children, adults, and families on their unique journey towards mental health and wellness. Dr. Akbar established IWG in the heart of New Haven in 2008 because she has a passion for providing individualized, comprehensive, and culturally sensitive mental health care to underserved urban populations.As a Licensed Psychologist for over ten years, Dr. Akbar has successfully worked with countless individuals and families of all ages and walks of life. She provides a safe and supportive environment where you can identify, understand, and work through the obstacles that are preventing you from reaching your fullest potential. Dr. Akbar offers a highly personalized approach to therapy that she tailors to meet each client’s unique and specific needs. Her clients describe her as “dedicated and caring”, “deeply compassionate”, and “extremely knowledgeable”.Dr. Akbar obtained her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Saint Louis University, where she specialized in clinical child and pediatric psychology. She has extensive training and experience working with a wide range of mental health concerns and is especially gifted in the domain of early childhood development. She spent many years working and consulting with CT child guidance clinics and Early Head Start programs. She also has comprehensive experience in transdisciplinary diagnostic evaluations and assessments, parent education, consultation, supervision, and training. Additionally, Dr. Akbar provides motivational coaching, leadership development, and trainings on organizational growth and strategy to both small and large businesses around the nation.IIn addition to her clinical work at IWG, Dr. Akbar is also a Assistant Clinical Professor at the Yale Child Study Center. Where she advances research in the field of Autism Spectrum Disorders. She has published numerous manuscripts focused on racial identity/socialization, and the effectiveness of psychotherapy in the underserved communities. Most recently, Dr. Akbar has published her research on the relationship between Autism, executive functioning and language.What is her passion outside of work?“Spending quality time with my family; achieving personal wellness; and recently the culinary arts”.

HutchinsonKyesha

Dr. Hutchinson obtained her Psy.D. from the University of Hartford’s Graduate Institute of Professional Psychology. She joined the staff at Integrated Wellness Group in February 2014, and currently provides both testing and assessment services, as well as therapy. She also works at our affiliated pediatric offices as an embedded clinician. She has experience working in partial-hospital programs, intensive outpatient programs, university counseling centers, crisis intervention services, and in outpatient clinics. She has helped clients cope with a variety of issues, from temporary life transitions to severe and persistent mental illness.Dr. Hutchinson specializes in the area of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). Additionally, she is in consultation for the use of Family-Based Therapy (FBT/Maudsley Method) for the treatment of anorexianervosa.

Kyisha received her Masters of Science degree in Psychology from Walden University in 2014. She is a dedicated lifelong resident of New Haven who has previously worked with numerous organizations whose work exemplifies her passion for youth accountability, parental and youth rights and educational advancement for all. Kyisha is a certified Restorative Justice trainer, a certified Results Based Accountability trainer, an Elm City Fellow 2010-2011 Alumna with the Annie E Casey Foundation, and a CLP Fellow 2014-2015 with the William Graustein Memorial Fund. Recently, she completed the GNEMSDC advanced leadership program (GALP), and her volunteer service includes work with the NAACP youth council, the City of New Haven Youth Commission, Citywide Youth Coalition and Board Chair for Project Youth Court. In addition to overseeing community programs at IWG such as Early Childhood Department and the VETTS™ program, Kyisha provides mental health counseling to individuals, couples and families at our New Haven and Branford locations. Kyisha has gained experience working with preschool programs, as well as performing a variety of developmental assessments. Kyisha’s experience includes completing child-specific behavioral assessments, as well as coaching program staff in implementing restorative practice strategies and behavioral management recommendations.Currently she is a Clinical Psychology PhD graduate student at Walden University with an expected graduation date of 2017. She currently coordinates and provides direct services to community partners across the state, and continues to be an advocate for justice.
